Back When

Remember
When all you had to do was smile and look pretty.
All you had to do was eat up.
Say cheese for the funny man in the hat.
You couldn't talk to strangers.
When mommy won't tell you why.
When you thought mommy's tummy was big because she ate too much.
When school was about addition and subtraction.
When you were cute if you knew what you wanted to do.
You ate what you were given.
When you needed a stool to turn on the light.
When mommy's eyes told you to stop.
When you were everyone's friend.
When you were the little bride.

Now life is full of responsibilities.
You need to grow a back bone.
Run in heels.
Climb okadas.
Look for a job.
Search for a man.
Pay rent.
Have class.

Now that is what I call a transition.
